Julian Coryell began playing the guitar at the tender age of five, and quickly exhibited a natural talent for the instrument (and other instruments as well – piano, bass, and drums to name a few). Son of famed guitarist Larry Coryell, Julian’s musical gifts were nourished and he began writing music at a young age. The Coryell household was never lacking in musical visitors, and Julian was exposed to everyone from Miles Davis to James Taylor, each adding to the mix of influences from which Julian is inspired. Julian entered Berklee college of Music at 16 years old and was the youngest graduate a few years later when he was 18 years old. Since then, he has toured and recorded with numerous platinum artists and has released his own solo records on Universal, Sony, and GRP. Since his early years in Berklee College, Julian has been recording his own music as well as other artists – back then at a self-built 8 track studio in Boston's gritty industrial district, and now at a professional, state of the art beach side recording studio he co-owns in Venice, California.

Notes from Julian

... From the mouth of Julian. "Hey there!

You may already know a little about me. If you don't, here's the cheat sheet!"

1. My dad is Larry Coryell, jazz guitarist extraordinaire and one of the founding fathers of "Fusion" music.

2. I was one of the youngest (maybe THE youngest?) graduates of Berklee College of Music at 18 years old.

3. I sing, write, produce and play for myself AND others, so you may know me as a working guitarist, or a hummer and strummer, or even a songwriter/producer.

4. I am not one of those self promoting, sex tape making, celebrity dating, personal fragrance selling artists, which is why maybe you've never heard of me at all! I went to college and studied music, not PR which may also explain why some people think I keep a low profile. Truth is, my intention is to connect you with my MUSICAL offerings, and maybe help you with yours!
I have an amazing wife and kids and a handful of folks I call good friends so don't take it personally if I don't behave like some other web savvy artists out there who self disclose everything to anyone… I personally don't want to know too much about my favorite artists anymore, just their art!

5. Some of the many talented artists/shows I've worked with: Alanis Morissette, Aimee Mann, Leonard Cohen, Jewel, Madeleine Peyroux, Dave Brubeck, Billy Cobham, Michael Penn, Jim Boggia, Kazuya Yoshii, X Factor, American Idol, The Tonight Show, David Letterman, and Conan O'Brien.

6. There are 2 kinds of music. Good and Bad. I like the good kind, which is possibly why my profile is lower than some! I have equal affection for jazz AND pop/rock/whatever, as a consequence I'm often bouncing back and fourth between the two...

7. I have a group called the Julian Coryell Trio. We mostly play covers we love. You can find us most Tuesdays at The Trip in Santa Monica playing music for YOU!

8. I've released 3 jazz CDs, 4 singer/songwriter CDs, 1 covers CD, and one mini Japanese Rock Opera!

9. My most recent CD is called "Gaijin", and is sung mostly in Japanese. Check it out!
